In this original and integrated approach to theoretical reasoning in physics, Malcolm Longair illuminates the subject from the perspective of real physics as practised by research scientists. Concentrating on the basic insights, attitudes and techniques that are the tools of the modern physicist, this approach conveys the intellectual. More than a generation of Gennan-speaking students around the world have worked their way to an understanding and appreciation of the power and beauty of modern theoretical physics - with mathematics, the most fundamental of sciences - using Walter Greiner's textbooks as their guide.

Hey everyone, I know it’s kind of off topic for a theoretical physics subreddit, but I think that this might be interesting: We tend to approach physics with a mathematical point of view, but also a philosophical one, and while the mathematical pov, has to be mostly similar because of formalisms, I wondered what was your relationship with the philosophy of science. Theoretical physics is a branch of physics that employs mathematical models and abstractions of physical objects and systems to rationalize, explain and predict natural is in contrast to experimental physics, which uses experimental tools to probe these phenomena.. The advancement of science generally depends on the interplay between experimental studies and theory.

For Popper’s thesis see his book „The Logic of Scientific Discovery“. Popper‘s thesis is in accordance with the fact, that scientific theories like the Theory of Relativity and Quantum Theory are open to falsification by observation. Up to now, these theories have not been falsified, there are no observations which contradict these. Indeed, his book promises to reveal 'the secret link between music and the structure of the universe.' Interwoven with solid physics and personal anecdotes, the book does an admirable job of bringing together modern jazz and modern physics."-Physics World's Book of the Year , Shortlist.

He began his epistemological work with "The Two Fundamental Problems of the Theory of Knowledge" (unpublished immediately), and he gave a summary of it in the first edition of his "Logic".Cited by: The Logic of Discovery: A Theory of the Rationality of Scientific Research - S.

This book by one of the world's foremost philosophers of science presented a striking new picture of the logical character of scientific discovery--a picture which does full justice to the liberating effect of the Einsteinian revolution in.

Not that the interdisciplinary is his orthodoxy; we are delighted that he has chosen to include in this book both his early and little-appreciated treatment of straightforward philosophy of physics - the axioms of Newtonian mechanics, and also his fine papers on pure confirmation theory.

On the other hand already in - the logic analysis of these subjects described in books Logical foundation of fundamental theoretical physics, LAMBERT Academic Publishing,ISBN Is there anything about the discovery of scientific theories that is of legitimate concern to the philosopher of science.

The answer to this question is still controversial. Popper (), Hempel (), and Braithwaite (), for example, have categorically denied that anything like a logic of discovery. Ihe International Journal of Theoretical Physics publishes original research and reviews in theoretical physics and neighboring fields.

Dedicated to the unification of the latest physics research, this journal seeks to map the direction of future research by presenting original work in traditional physics like general relativity, quantum theory with relativistic quantum field theory, as used.
