The coating additives market is mostly dominated by established chemical companies. Intense R&D is the key to capture market share. Players such as BYK-Chemie GmbH (Germany), BASF SE (Germany), Arkema SA (France), AkzoNobel N.V. (Netherlands), and Evonik Industries (Germany.) accounted for the major market share. The problem with many slip additives is that they reduce the gloss of the cured coating. It is thus important that the coating composition containing slip additive retains at least 75% gloss (compared with gloss of the coating without additive), and the additive sufficiently reduces the coefficient of friction of composition.
Coating additives can improve the quality and application of the coating, and the addition of a small amount can change the physical properties and functions of the coating. In the current situation of serious environmental pollution, environmentally friendly coatings and cleaning coatings have become the development direction. Additives Handbook We have chosen to publish a select number of definitions, or partial definitions, found in the Additives Handbook. Full definitions for all of the categories shown are available at , and are available on CD. Contact Andrea Kropp at [email protected] for more Size: KB.
Coatings with Celatom® Functional Additives A round the world, makers of high-quality architectural and industrial coatings have discovered the benefits of Celatom® diatomaceous earth (DE), also known as diatomite or kieselgühr. In most industrially-developed regions, DE is used in the majority of high-quality interior and exterior formulations. Solenis' family of coating additives enable paper and paperboard manufacturers to optimize their coating process performance or implement new surface performance applications. In particular, coatings colors that are subject to high-shear conditions during high-speed coating processes must remain a stable dispersion with good water retention.

Waterborne A waterborne coating is an environmentally friendly surface treatment that uses water as a solvent to disperse the resin used to make the coating. Technical Paper Green chemistry 40 European Coatings OURNAL 05 l The coating containing silica, which has the roughest touch, has a regular distribution of fine elevations at the surface.
On the other hand, the coating containing the biopolymer based additive, which has the most pleasant touch, is char.
Unlike gloss coating, matte coating gives a diffused sheen, which boosts the contrast of photos and offers a smoother presentation than uncoated. These type of matte papers are often used for art books, lookbooks, literary journals, graphic novels.
Coating Additives SPHERILEX® – A novel synthetic silica engineered for improved durability and burnish resistance In paints and coatings, precipitated silica is widely known as a superior matting agent. In practice, many series of tests are often necessary, and the results do not explain, why a certain additive improves the quality of a coating and another one impairs the coating.
This book is dedicated to developers and applicants of coatings working in research or production, and it is aimed at providing a manual for their daily work. Paper Coating Technology. Coated paper is a kind of paper consisting of base paper and coating layer. During coating, coating color is applied to the base paper to enhance its properties. Coating color consists mainly of pigments, binders, and various by: 3.
Additives for Paper Coatings and Converting Paper Coating and Converting impart special qualities to the paper surface to deliver a performance not exhibited by the uncoated base paper. In all cases additives and functional reagents are required to deliver an optimized paper surface and the required performance.
CHEMICALS USED IN PULP &PAPER MANUFACTURING AND COATING. While there are about or so different types of chemicals which "can be used" in papermaking, in practice only about individual chemicals are typically used, each satisfying a specific need.
